José Enrique Valdescano, known artistically as Valdescano, is a Cuban sculptor and member of UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba). His career is distinguished by exceptional institutional recognition, including 7 formal prizes: multiple Grand Prix awards at the Salón La Plástica en Abril (2006, 2008, 2009, 2013) and the prestigious Premio Rita Longa in 2007.
Valdescano’s works have achieved international reach, with pieces installed at the Vicente García Museum, the United Nations headquarters, and the Embassy of Cuba in Rome. This geographic spread of permanent installations speaks to the monumental ambition and diplomatic significance of his sculptural practice.
His representative piece in the Run Art Inside catalogue, Tantra, reflects his ongoing exploration of symbolism, the human body, and spirituality — themes that have defined his artistic trajectory. Working primarily in sculpture, Valdescano brings a deeply rooted Cuban artistic sensibility informed by rigorous academic training and decades of professional practice.
As a member of the Run Art Inside collective based in Miami, Valdescano contributes not only his distinguished career credentials but also his deep understanding of the Cuban sculptural tradition.
